The Artist:
I am a Marine Life Sculptor and Artist. I was born in 1942 and named
Dick Wisshack. Between my Norwegian heritage and having a great-grandfather
as a whaler, it has increased my fascination and the love I have
with the mysteries of the sea.
Many years went by and I was fortunate to have met two renowned
sculptors in 1989, Dick Hotchkiss and Jack Richardson in Grass Valley,
California. Both were teaching clay sculpturing at an evening class
I attended at a nearby college. They had a special gift of bringing
out the talent and confidence from within their pupils, encouraging
each one to reach deeper within and develop their own style in their
art. Today, I thank both of them for their guidance, friendship and
encouragement as well as God for giving me a talent that was hidden
and now speaks from my soul into each piece of my art.
The following quotation still expresses what it means to me to create
a sculpture...
"...with
God's guidance I placed a piece of clay within my hands, I squeezed,
pressed and molded it, and it yielded to my will. Days later...this
form had not changed."
Currently, my work is in private collections in California, Oregon,
Arizona, Georgia, Floria, Great Britian, China and Mexico.
I have just unveiled new Bronze sculptures, greeting cards and t-shirt
designs from the eye-to-eye experiences I had during my trips in
2004, 2005 and 2007 with the Humpback whales.

I
made the whales a promise that through the talents that God has
given me, I would be a spokesman by bringing awareness today and
for future generations through my sculptures and drawings that
the world must Preserve and Protect these gifts and allow only
Mother Nature to control their destiny.
The Only Enemy the whales
have is...Man!
